SHJH student wins Best Seventh Grade Essay in Tinley Park VFW’s Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Contest

Congratulations to Summit Hill Junior High seventh grader Chloe Stanford on writing the Best Seventh Grade Essay in the Tinley Park VFW’s Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Contest and advancing to the district level! Stanford was presented with a certificate, medal, and check by Robert Jensen from the Tinley Park VFW.

The contest encourages students in sixth through eighth grades to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. The 2025-26 theme was "How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?" Her essay was submitted as part of a class assignment for Mr. Sullivan’s ELA class.
