Students from 16 different school district music departments competed in the Illinois Grade School Music Association’s Solo & Ensemble Contest hosted at Summit Hill Junior High this weekend! There were 15 events presented by SHJH band students and 14 of them received first division ratings. In addition, three of these first division ratings were perfect scores!
Receiving first ratings for solos were Elijah Drozd (piano), Aliyah Cheval (flute), Parker Sloss (alto saxophone), Nathanyl Lopez (alto saxophone), Jillian James Bradley (clarinet), and Simone Hilbert (snare drum). Deborah Kwarteng received a second division rating for her flute solo.
First ratings for ensembles were a flute trio by Becca Lorenz, Marin Mangnall and Paige Miller; a clarinet/flute duet by Elliana Jordan and Becca Lorenz; an alto sax duet by Nathan Diaz and Nathanyl Lopez; a flute trio by Haylee Grant, Deborah Kwarteng and Emma Piwkiewicz; and a sax quartet by Nathan Diaz, Nathanyl Lopez, Liam Phillips and Jonathan Tadros.
Perfect scores were presented to Lenna Augustynek-Gutierrez for her clarinet solo, Elijah Drozd for his xylophone solo, and a percussion quartet by Elijah Drozd, Simone Hilbert, Trinh Phan, and Oscar Virla.
