HALLWAY DISPLAYS:
We have been studying the our National Symbols and America, the Melting Pot. Our hallway is very patriotic with National Symbol Posters, our Melting Pot Collages and summaries along with our Veteran Day Posters. READING A.R. AND BOOK PROJECTS:
Students have taken their STAR test and they know their independent reading level. This was also sent home for your to see on the weekly reflection. Fourth grade students are expected to make a reading goal of 3 or more A.R. books/quizzes beginning 2nd quarter. One of their books could also be used for the 2nd quarter book project. All fourth grade students must be reading chapter books at their A.R. level. Students MAY NOT select a book that has been made into a movie/T.V. show for their project. Books that students have read before or have heard as a read aloud are not acceptable choices for the book project as well.
Students will need to select a second quarter chapter book to read each day. Books, Scholastic News papers and magazines can all be used for reading calendar minutes. Comic books should not be the main reading choice for calendar reading. Students must remember to bring chapter books to and from school each day for ERT (Eagle Reading Time) as well as transition times. We carry our books everywhere and even read in our bus line while waiting to be dismissed. Mrs. Janes loves to see what you are all reading too! The second quarter book project will be due before you can blink an eye (figuratively speaking)!
HOMEWORK SIGNATURES:
Parents, please sign off on reading calendars and assignment books only when your child shows you he/she has completed the work. This is of great help to me each morning when I make my quick check in of assignment books and homework from 24 students and follow up with a homework punch in each "driver's license". My students all work very hard and want to show me they are on the "road to success." Also, it is our policy that when papers come home with a grade lower than a "C", you need to initial it at the top and send it back to school.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! |
