Ms. Mary Welke - 4th (Send e-mail)
November 10, 2008
Dear Parent,
At conferences, each of you received a letter from your child, a blank piece of paper, and a letter asking you to write a letter to your child. Please return those letters to school by Wednesday, November 12th. Thank you for your help with this. As I explained to many of you, these letters really do mean a lot to your child.
We will be writing Thanksgiving letters to send over to some of the soldiers in Afghanistan. If your child has Halloween candy that they would like to donate, we will send that along with our letters. Candy or gum would be great, but please do not send in any chocolate. Thanks!
I would just like to remind you that our class goes to the Learning Center every Friday and to the Bookmobile every other Monday. All students need to have their books with them on those days.

Math We will be working on measurement. This week, we will be working with customary units of length and capacity. Students will be writing several notes in their notebook. As always, once it is in their notebook, students are responsible for studying those notes. It is very important that they keep up with reviewing these notes because there will be a lot that must be memorized for the test.
We continue to take timed tests every day to practice multiplication facts. Our child should be reviewing these at home also.
If you would like additional practice for your child, please go to:

There will be a spelling test on Wednesday. There will be a story Quiz on How to Babysit and Orangutan on Thursday, and the test on Theme 2 will be on Thursday, November 20th .
The Theme Test will cover the following concepts: cause and effect, summarizing, figurative language, complete and simple predicates, compound subjects and predicates, simple and compound sentences, clauses, and complex sentences.
Here are some additional resources to go along with the skills we will be working on this week:
