Teacher Ms. Kraus - Gr. 4 (Send e-mail)
Students will be dismissed at 2:20 P.M. this Wednesday to start Thanksgiving Break a little early. I want to thank all of my students for working hard and thank all of my parents for their support. Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!! School resumes December 1.
*Parents just a friendly reminder if you can bring back the envelope I handed out at Parent/Teacher Conferences by Nov.24 if possible. *Our Art Volunteers in the Classroom will be presenting on Wednesday. We will be introduced to Alexander Calder’s work. *Indian Trail School will also be having our American Diabetes School Walk this Wednesday inside our school. All donations are asked to be returned by Dec. 3, 2008.
*Please don't forget about the Charles Tillman Locker Program. This month is a clothing drive. Examples of donated items are:hats, scarves,gloves,jackets,sweaters, and pants. Thank you to those who have donated! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
*For the month of November students need to read 425 minutes for Book It and he/she will reveive a Pizza Hut Certificate. November Book It is due Dec. 1,2008.
For the week of November 24-26, here is a tentative schedule:
Reading- This week students will finish How to Babysit an Orangutan? Our story is a Nonfiction piece-tells about people things, events, or places that are real. The vocabulary words for this story are: displeasure, jealous, endangered, smuggled, facial, and coordination. We focused on Summarizing and KWL charts. Our test on How to Babysit an Orangutan will be on Wednesday, Nov.26
Spelling- We will not have a test this week. We will discuss different words related to Thanksgiving and have a few activities to follow. Lesson 11 will begin next week.
English-We will begin our next Unit on Verbs this week.
Math- Students are going to be having timed multiplication tests as a review and students should practice their facts for the next set of chapters. We will have a test on 8's next week. Students need to receive an A, B, or C on their timed test to move on to the next multiple. It is very important that students continue reviewing their facts. Our Ch. 6 Test is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25.
Social Studies- We are moving on to Ch. 4-Northeast. We will begin by describing physical features found along the New England Coast. Next, we will talk about why many people moved to cities in the Northeast. The vocabulary words are: erosion, import, export, rural, colony, natural resource, megalopolis, urban sprawl, population, central business district, and raw materials.
Science- We are going to begin Ch.11-Physical Properties of Matter. The following vocabulary we will focus on in the chapter are: landform, mountain, topography, volcano, earthquake, deposition, glacier, fossil, and fossil record.
