Janet Putz - Art 7th/8th  (Send e-mail)

Mrs Putz
jputz@summithill.org

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I am Janet Putz and I teach Art here at Summit Hill Junior High School. I have been teaching at Summit Hill for eight years.

All lesson plans and assignment information are posted here on my teacher page. Just open the downloads as listed.

The goals for Art are based on the Illinois State Fine Art Goals, which are:
1. Know the language of art.
2. Understand how works of art are produced.
3. Understand the role of art in civilizations.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

PROJECTS:

All projects are to be completed in class. Each project will cover several state goals. All projects are graded based on a grading rubric, which is provided to students.

HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK:

MYSTERY ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Students will have a MYSTERY ARTIST OF THE WEEK (M.A.O.W.) assignment every Monday. It will be due by the beginning of class on Friday. There will be a new poster with facts displayed every Monday. We will write the clues from the LCD on Monday. Based on the information on the poster and your own research on the web or other resource, your task is to figure out who the artist is. Write your answer on notebook paper and hand in before Friday. The artist’s name must be complete and spelled correctly to receive all points. No time will be given on Friday for last minute scrambling to get it handed in.

SKETCHBOOK SPECIAL NOTE - TERM 2: DUE TO THE NUMBER OF TUESDAYS THAT STUDENTS HAVE NO SCHOOL, TERM 2 SKETCHBOOK WILL BE ASSIGNED ON WEDNESDAYS.

SKETCHBOOK:
You will receive a homework SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENT every Tuesday and it will be due the following Tuesday. You are to do each observation drawing free hand on your own. We will share the drawings with the class as a whole to offer constructive criticism. These critiques will help us learn, and improve our art and imagination over the span of the term. Since you will have a week to complete each assignment, you are to spend a minimum of 1 hour on each drawing assignment, following the guidelines handout, rubric, and shading example completed in class.

WRITTEN WORK: You will periodically complete group and individual classroom writing assignments, including art criticism, reflections and art career work.

SUPPLIES - STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE THESE SUPPLIES:

Sketchbook - 9 x 12 spiral bound about 25-50 or so pages.
Folder - 2 pocket folder that is used for Art only -with notebook paper
Unlined computer type paper – about 15 sheets
Tissues

You also may be asked to bring the following: pencils (mechanical o.k., but regular also needed), large eraser, Sharpie permanent black fine tip marker, colored pencils, and colored markers. These can be the same ones used in other classes.

MAKE-UP WORK:
It is the students’ responsibility to find out what was missed if they are absent. Check the board and also ask me after I have the class started. Don’t forget to check my teacher page on the website if you are at home also.

GRADING:
Grades are weighted according to the district-wide guidelines established for Art:

Summative 45%

Formative 40%

Classwork 15%
