Mrs. Gail Klein - 6  (Send e-mail)

February 2008
Dear Parents:
We have had a great start to our second semester. I want to welcome Mrs. Stephanie Rose as our student teacher. Mrs. Rose is completing her teaching degree at Trinity Christian College in the Adult Studies Program. She will be with us until mid May when she will graduate from Trinity with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. As you may know, Mrs. Rose has worked in my classroom since August as a one on one teacher's aide, and now she has assumed a new role as our student teacher. Mrs. Rose has already begun teaching English, Spelling, and Math, and will gradually add Reading and Social Studies to her day. Throughout the year we have enjoyed the comments and insight that Mrs. Rose has added to our classroom discussions, and it has been a positive experience to see her assume more of the responsibilities of teaching.

Here is an update on what we are currently working on in my classroom:

Language Arts: We are about to complete our Verb Unit in English. The students also did a fabulous job on their Young Author's projects. The students in my Language Arts class all have a wonderful memento of their sixth grade creative writing abilities. We are also midway through our study of The Giver. This book has generated a lot of interesting classroom discussions. They students are working on a Novel Studies Unit to enhance their study of this book and relatd Reading skills.

Math: We are starting Chapter 7 on writing algebraic expressions and equations. After completing this chapter, in order to help prepare the students for ISAT exams coming up in March, we will move up to chapter 10 on Geometry.

Social Studies: We are completing our study of the Roman Empire and we will be moving on to The Middle Ages. Students have also chosen the country that they will be studying for their World's Fair project and groups have been formed for the final event in May. Information about World's Fair will be coming home as we work our way through the project.

If you need to contact me or Mrs. Rose, please call the school or e-mail me at gklein@summithill.org.
