School ImprovementPLANNED IMPROVEMENT FOR THE SCHOOL AND DISTRICT
Summit Hill School District 161 faculty and administration are continuing to meet the mandates of the Illinois School Accreditation Process. This process requires schools to provide evidence that all students are learning and all students are being served in relation to the Illinois Learning Standards. This process is closely correlated with the District’s Continuous Curriculum Development and Improvement Model, which outline the procedures for continuing development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum.
This curriculum and improvement plan has provided the teachers and administrators with the guidelines to assess, refine and create new learning objectives, as well as recommend curriculum material. In addition, it provides articulation and coordination between grade levels to assure that all students are offered the highest quality educational opportunities.
In addition to this improvement model, the District has recently formulated new District Goals to guide each individual building to insure improved teaching, learning, and academic achievement for all students.
The “School Improvement Plan” of Indian Trail School focuses on improving the educational program for all students. The plan evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of our current programs and proposes an action plan to address the area(s) of concern. The School Improvement Plan is part of the process that promotes continual school improvement. Participants in the process include all segments of our school community, including parents and community members.
Our School Improvement Team at Indian Tail School, working jointly with the entire staff, has identified several areas of focus for the 2007-2008 school year. We will be striving to:
• Improve extended response in both reading and math.
• Improve reading fluency and comprehension across the disciplines.
• Improving basic knowledge of geometric concepts, measurement and basic
facts will adequately improve performance in math.
• Improve student knowledge in the areas of Life Science and Earth Science.
• Improve composition writing across all grade levels and curriculum.
Indian Trail School will also continue to plan school-wide events that reward the students for good attendance, improved academic progress, and school/community citizenship.
