Salute to Volunteers
The Indian Trail staff would like to cordially thank the many volunteers that assist in our mission to “. . . support and challenge children . . .”
The Indian Trail SCO volunteers have worked diligently to provide additional opportunities for our children. Due to their support, Indian Trail is able to have 10 clubs this year for our children to participate and grow. SCO also provides lunch days, treat days, and the book fair. The SCO is also currently planning for “FallFest.” Thank you to all the SCO volunteers for their consistent efforts for our children.
AVIC, the Art Volunteers In the Classroom, have also been hard at work preparing for their programs with our children. AVIC presentations begin this month! We greatly appreciate their effort to further enrich art opportunities at Trail. Artistic expression is a valuable asset; thank you for providing this gift to our children.
Safety
To ensure a safe environment for our children, we conduct safety drills with the children. This month, we will be conducting school-wide fire, tornado, lockdown, and bus evacuation drills with the children. We have already had an extremely successful all-school fire drill and classroom teachers work with the children at the class-level to maximize safety.
We ask parents to fully cooperate with our staff regarding entrance and exit procedures. Please know that our staff works diligently to supervise and assist movement in the parking lots and crosswalks. Staff decisions are made with safety being the #1 priority. We have 390 students to keep safe, and we ask for your support. Please keep it slow in the lots and on the street, and comply with crossing guard requests.
With the weather turning colder, we realize that more parents will be dropping children off instead of walking. Please be patient and work with us to keep a safe environment at entry and dismissal times.
Attention Indian Trail School Parents and Students!!!
The Locker Program: A Giving Initiative begins October 8
When walking through the Library of Indian Trail School you will be greeted with a smile by Chicago Bears Cornerback, Charles Tillman. In reality, at our school, you will see a life-size poster of him next to a “locker.” The poster of Charles Tillman and the locker along side him will serve as a reminder that we are participating in a monthly giving initiative sponsored by Charles Tillman’s Cornerstone Foundation and the Propel Sports Group. The foundation’s goals are to increase awareness of and provide assistance to unfortunate residents and students who may have difficulty obtaining basic necessities such as food, clothing, personal hygiene products and school supplies.
From October 2008 through March 2009, Indian Trail School staff and students will be collecting and donating items that are requested by Charles Tillman and the Cornerstone Foundation. For example, in the first month of this collection drive, our donations will be focused on replenishing the food shelves of our local Frankfort Township Food Pantry.
Our community benefits by this giving initiative. Monthly giving themes/shopping lists are as follows:
October Food Drive (for Frankfort Township Food Pantry)
November Clothing Drive
December Food Drive
January School Supply Drive
February Personal Hygiene Drive
March Food Drive
Participation in the Locker Program giving initiative provides a “learn and serve” project for our students. The school with the most items per capita at the end of the program is declared the winner and will receive a personal appearance at a school assembly from Charles Tillman. Also, one student from each participating school will receive a VIP luncheon and facility tour with Mr. Tillman at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. Every student who participates in The Locker Program will receive an autographed 8”x 11” photo of Charles Tillman.
Since The Locker Program is new to our area, only five (5) schools in Illinois are competing for the top performance prizes…all are in Summit Hill School District 161. Therefore, one of our Summit Hill Schools will be on top! Let’s make it Indian Trail School!!! Go Trailblazers! Trailblazer families can access The Locker Program website toward the end of October so we can review school standings and learn more about the program.
Please contact me with questions.
Sincerely,
Daniel C. Pierson, Principal

Welcome to Indian Trail Elementary School for the 2008-2009 School Year. We are excited about the school year!
Please note that future editions of the Trailblazer Trib. will be on our website. This is one step we are taking to be “greener.”
As some of you may have noticed, we have a number of new Trailblazer staffers. Please welcome Mrs. Aslan, 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Chinski, 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Mazur, social worker, Mrs. LaFemina, resource teacher, Mr. Jacobi and Mrs. Mucha, P.E. teachers, Mrs. McGrath, reading specialist, Ms. Maas, art teacher, Ms. Doherty, nurse, Mrs. Probst, school psychologist, Mr. Pierson, principal, Mrs. Frigo, office clerk, and Melissa Simek, Courtney Krzywon, and Judy Radusewicz, instructional aides.
Our staff has been hard at work to create an environment where our students can grow academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. We ask that all the Trailblazer parents remain active in the educational career of our children. Since parents are the most important teachers in our kids’ lives, please consider assisting the school by volunteering your time and talents to the SCO, Art volunteers, or ask your child’s teacher about how you can help.
Key Points:
• Office Hours are 8:30-3:45
