S.C.O. NEWS

Dear Frankfort Square School Parents,

With the school year well under way, our SCO is kicking into full gear. We were able to bring our students the “6 + 1 Writing Fun” assembly in September. The students enjoyed the fun, interactive way they were shown to improve their language arts and writing skills. Also in September, we concluded our first fundraiser of the year. Many thanks to Mrs. Julie Hein for organizing this successful fundraiser. The profits that were earned from this fundraiser will go toward our assembly programs and for the purchase of other equipment for our school.

This October is a busy month! Affy Tapples will be available to order starting Tuesday, October 9. Order forms will be sent home with the students. Orders are due Friday, October 19, and will be delivered on Thursday, October 25. Also, ButterBraid coffee cake order forms will be sent home on Monday, October 22. (Try the new Bavarian Cream with chocolate glaze!)

The first SCRIP order form requests will be sent home with the students on Wednesday, October 10. Remember…SCRIP is a program in which gift cards are purchased at face value for the amount indicated. SCRIP buys in bulk and passes the savings on to us. For example, if you purchase a $25 gift card for Dominick’s Food Stores, you get the actual $25 Dominick’s gift card that you would purchase in the store. But because SCRIP buys the gift cards in bulk, the retailers offer a discount which is passed on to us. Some of the choices for gift cards are grocery and drug stores, gas stations, apparel stores, discounters, specialty and gift stores, and restaurants. If you’re interested in seeing the full line of retailers, please return your order form request! Don’t forget…this is an easy way to get started on your holiday shopping!

Get out your mittens…BOOK FAIR BLIZZARD is heading to Frankfort Square School starting Tuesday, October 16! The students will be bringing home more information and a schedule indicating when their class will be visiting the Book Fair. Please mark your calendar for Thursday, October 18—this is Family Night! There will be a very special treat for those of you who attend this family night. Watch for details coming home soon. Many thanks to Mrs. Stacey Borgens for once again chairing our Book Fair!

Red Ribbon Week is our annual “Say No to Drugs” campaign. Red Ribbon Week runs from October 22-26. Every day of this week, our students will be reminded about the dangers of drug use in a fun, non-threatening manner. Please ask your children what the “phrase of the day” is during the week. Our SCO wishes to thank Mrs. Penny Jordan and Mrs. Roxanne Anderson for running this important event.

Benjamin Franklin is jumping out of the history books and into our school! From what we understand, President Abraham Lincoln (who visited our school last year) told Mr. Franklin what a wonderful group of students we have. Of course, Mr. Franklin wants to come and see for himself on Tuesday, October 23. We can’t wait!

Finally, on October 31, our students will enjoy their spooky Halloween class parties! Mrs. Julie Hein and all of the room parents work very hard to make these class parties one of the students’ favorites!

Don’t forget to place you Market Day orders this month! Frankfort Square School has the opportunity to earn $400 in Scholastic Books! Market Day is Thursday, October 11, from 3-4pm. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PICK UP YOUR ORDERS AT THIS TIME. Market Day profit for September was $409.92. Thank you to Kathie & Jerry Ryba for running their first successful Market Day sale last month!

Hot Lunches are October 12 & 26. Treat Day is October 19. As always, we thank our hot lunch chairperson, Mrs. Cyndi Grobmeier, and our treat day chairperson, Mrs. Stacey Borgens, for their efforts in organizing these special events.

Please join us at our next SCO meeting on Friday, November 2, at 9:15 in the lunchroom. A complete list of all the S.C.O. meeting dates are listed below. YOU’RE INVITED! Please come and help us plan activities for our children.

The Frankfort Square SCO invites everyoneto attend our meetings. We truly want to hear your input! We’re always looking for parents and other community members to give us new ideas. Your comments and suggestions are welcome! Below is a list of SCO meeting dates. All meetings are held at 9:15 on Friday mornings in the lunchroom. SCO meetings typically run for about an hour. Small children can accompany their parents, provided they can be kept reasonably occupied with books, puzzles, small toys, etc. We hope you can join us!
