From the Principal

Principal's Comments:

Progress reports went home on September 28 and the end of the grading period is October 23, with report cards going home on November 5 and parent teacher conferences on November 8 and 9. This is an excellent opportunity to take time to discuss with your child their progress in school. Praise them for their efforts. Ask them where they feel they can improve. Set goals for their report card and discuss what you can do together to reach those goals. Look not only at their grades but also the percentage for each subject area. Speak with you child about what questions they would like to ask their teacher about their work and their grades. If you have any questions about their grades and what you can do to support your child, please contact their teacher. We make a team, child, parents and teachers, to educate our children. Your support makes a difference.

All children in second, third and fourth grade have taken the NWEA assessments in language usage, reading and math. The purpose of these assessments is to assist the teachers in planning instruction to best meet the needs of all children. Your child's teacher will be able to share their results during parent teacher conferences.

Classroom parties will be held on October 31st from 2:00 - 3:00 after the Halloween parade. If you plan to take your child home for lunch and to change into their costume, please send a note to your child's teacher by Tuesday, October 30th. Children may not wear their costume to school, they change into costume after lunch. No masks are allowed as we want all children to be able to see clearly. If you have any questions, please call us.

We encourage student responsibility and ask that they check their bookbag to insure that they have everything they need to complete their homework. We understand that occasionally a book or assignment may be forgotten at school. Please check as soon as your child gets home as we were having students return to school for forgotten work as late as 5:00 p.m. Students are not allowed to go to their classroom alone after school if their teacher has already left, which means that someone from the office must take the time to assist them. We ask that if you must bring your child back to school to get something that they have forgotten, please do so by 3:45.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for a wonderful start to the new school year. The students have settled in to the new year with increased expectations of being a year older and more responsible. As I visit the classrooms, I see outstanding instruction from our teachers and excellent effort from our students. Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs. Carey
