Our goal is to expand the current modes of differentiated instruction to increase the reading comprehension and writing skills in all grade levels along with integrating reasoning skills into the curricular areas. A focus will be on the following reasoning skills: comparing and contrasting, inductive reasoning, and deductive reasoning. Reading will also be a focus in the subjects of science and social studies where guided reading strategies and higher level thinking skills will be utilized to improve reading comprehension of content area material. A focus in all subject areas is to promote vocabulary development in order to improve comprehension skills. Students will be given a Word of the Week, a new vocabulary word, that can be incorporated in multiple content areas. In the mathematics area, the focus will be on improving student performance in developing basic skills and problem solving skills. In all subject areas, it is the goal to increase the percentage of students in the exceeds category.
