October Newsletter

Asset of the Month

The October Asset of the month, which stresses the importance of the commitment to learning, is HOMEWORK. Students should work toward being responsible for knowing what they have for homework and for bringing home the necessary supplies in order to get the job done. At home, children should have a quiet, comfortable, well-lit place to work. When possible, work with your child and limit television hours. At school, we will assign relevant and meaningful homework. We will continue to communicate with parents so that we build partnerships in the best interest of our students.

A.V.I.C. Update

We are happy to announce that our first A.V.I.C. (Art Volunteers in the Classroom) opportunity will take place this month in 3rd grade. This is our first year implementing this program and we plan to expand into other grades after this year. After presenting an artist and his/her works, students will have the chance to create an art project in the style of that artist. A special thanks to Mrs. Borgia, Mrs. Drafke, Mrs. Pohrte, Mrs. Duvall, Mrs. O’Malley, and Mrs. Wedlake. These women are responsible for getting this program up and running in our school! An additional thanks goes to Mrs. Rebecca Glawe for her training and wisdom in this area.

“Award Winning” All Star Lunch Room and Recess Behavior

Our first through fourth grade students have behavioral expectations that have been clearly communicated. While in the lunchroom- they are to be sure to clean up after themselves, use appropriate volume when speaking with classmates at their tables, use proper table manners, line up in a quiet and orderly manner, and respect and respond appropriately to adults. While on the playground- line up in an orderly manner when recess is over, put away playground equipment, keep hands and feet to themselves and respect and respond appropriately to adults. When this is achieved, classes will be recognized with a plaque. There is one plaque per grade level, so students will work hard to win, and ultimately, try to keep the plaque in their classroom by exhibiting their “All Star” behavior all day.

Box Tops for Education & Campbell Soup Labels

We are starting to collect all those Box Tops and Campbell Soup Labels yet again this year!! Hopefully everyone has been saving their tops and labels and is ready to drop them off. Starting in November, you can start dropping off your box tops and labels in the bins located inside the school. We are also looking for parents to help out with the sorting, clipping and most importantly the counting for each classroom. If you are available and would like to help out for your child’s class, please let one of the Board Members or your child’s teacher know. As always, any and all help is much appreciated!!
